aye to zee!

today... a music alphabet soup! some bands you should check out. one for each letter (hopefully!) of the alphabet. it's not a best of, or a list of bands you don't know of. it's just a list. i'm not sure where i should start... maybe... hmmm...
i'll go with A!

Away From Now
A Melbourne hardcore punk outfit that has a reputation for providing consistent energetic, tight live sets to their audiences. Their debut album Blackout changed my view of punk rock in Australia.

Billy Bragg
Stephen William Bragg, the bard of Barking, is the most punk rock person I can think of. Jumping from politics to romance and back again his songs delight me every single time. Spanning the gaps between folk, pop, rock and punk he truly is a genius.

Captain, We're Sinking
I've only just started listening to these guys. Can't get enough. Really. Find them, treat yourself. You can download a 4 track ep for free here!

The Don Ramos Players
The Don Ramos Players draw influences from bands such as Hot Water Music, The Lawrence Arms, Small Brown Bike and The Loved Ones to name a few. This is not technical, there is no messing about. If you like it, then that's good. If you don’t, then you don’t. They can live with that.

Enrique Iglesias
Enrique is sexy. Check him out! :P

Fake problems
They make me want to dance. They make me want to cry. They make me swoon for men. Seriously they are the best. Love them you will.

The Gaslight Anthem
Rock and roll the way it should be. Thank you Coco.

Hot Water Music
I only got onto the Hot Water Music train about 60 million years to late but they are amazing and have shaped the punk that I listen to. Every band in the world must be influenced by HWM.

Ignite
Be inflamed, be impassioned. Enjoy.

José González
Listen to the guys guitar work. Listen to his voice. Listen to his songs. They are beautiful. Not bad for a guy from Sweden. Respect.

Kill Whitey
Kill Whitey are an an "indie swing four piece" from Melbourne. I found them when they toured with Grim Fandango.

LaGrecia
They're a rock band that has the guy from None More Black in it. Get it in ya!

Million Dead
You may have heard of Frank Turner. Million Dead is the band Frank was in before he started his solo stuff. Don't get me wrong I like Frank Turners solo stuff, but this is jsut so much better. Do yourself a favour and get "A Song To Ruin". It'll change you...

No Trigger
It's been a long time since the last No Trigger record came out. I'm sitting here crossing my little fingers that something new is in the works but as each week passes with no news at all I get a little sadder. They're still rad and I like them. Yay!

The Offspring
I grew up on them. They helped me get to where I am today. I've been listening to them alot lately. Smash is still one of the greatest records ever released. If you havent listened to it in a while do it now. Thank me later.

Protest The Hero
Warning: will melt your face.

Queen
Classics. You love em... don't pretend you don't!

Rancid
Another band that I've been listening to alot lately. They do it right. Simple as that.

Small Brown Bike
They come and go in my listening. When they're here I can't get enough of them. I'm actually listening to "Dead Reckoning" right now!

Tom Petty
He won't back down becahuse he's free falling while running down a dream.

Ugly Kid Joe
America's least wanted band. The first Cassette I ever bought for myself was an UKJ album. Ahhhh, the memories!

Various Artists
It's not a joke. The best way to get into new bands is sampler CDs and compilations. Often they're for a good cause too... Get involved!

Will Shatner
His cover of "Common People" = hilarious!

Xkcd
Is not a musician or band but I can't think of one and it's an awesome web comic. enjoy!

Yellowcard
Viollins rock!

Zxspecky
Perth band. I saw them once and they played their set in alphabetical order. What better way is there to finish an alphabetical list!?

Have fun kids!

thoughts

they pop into my head. at random times. not enough to make something out of them. just wastes of space. here's some i've had recently.

- procrastination is awesome. fact.
- i'm pretty cool. but i know it. so it makes me less cool. and if i act like i don't know it then it seems like i just do know it and am acting like i don't, rendering the act futile.
- for a university graduate my spelling is horrendous. (side note: thank you spell check! although i think e e cummings had it right when it comes to capital letters.)
- fart jokes are always funny
- going back 2 points, e e cummings (oops, E. E. Cummings [wait, i'm not sure how he wants it.. oops, he's dead and probably doesn't want anything]) is pretty cool. read some of his stuff!
- brackets inside brackets are awesome (like in the previous point[or right here] or in the bad sandwich chronicles)
- am i just making stuff up to fill time now?
- finding new music is hard.
- i need to pee
- what is with me wanting to post on this blog more lately? starved for attention? nope, that's not it... i dunno. help a brother out?

what a waste of your time. my bad. check you all later.

cheers n beers

Flawless Victory

Here is a list of some records that i think are perfect. Start to finish. You don't press skip once.
Check em out yo! (If you haven't already)

The War on Errorism - NOFX
Classic nofx, brilliantly written, funny, what more could you want in an album!

Indestructible - Rancid
Gravely vocals, seering guitars, sing alongs, taste the rhyme.

Smash - The Offspring
Anger, energy, powerful... why they will forever be amazing.

Blackout - Away From Now
Droolingly good Australian hardcore. Just oh so amazing... Find it somewhere, anywhere!

Inside Jokes For Outside Folks - Nightbeast
This guy is loling all the way to the bank.

Searching For A Former Clarity - Against Me!
Punk rock story telling at it's finest. These boys ooze class.

From Here To Infirmary - Alkaline Trio
Dark brooding pop from those that do it best.

Cocktails & Dreams - The Lawrence Arms
some will tell you this isn't an album etc because it's a compilation of tracks from here and there. Put it on, listen to it. You won't press skip.

Potemkin City Limits - Propagandhi
Propagandhi are listed in almost every punk bands influences list. PCL is their finest work.

Siren Song Of The Counter Culture - Rise Against
SSOTCC is Rise Against best album by far, it makes me want to fight for change, to stand up and be counted, to get involved. Brilliant.

Dancing For Decadence - Sainte Catherines
Oooooohhhh... It makes me feel dirty (in a good way) all over!

Mute Print - A Wilhelm Scream
From the opener "Mute Print" to closing with "Dreaming of Throwing Up" AWS sit you down, tell you to shut up and show you how it is going to be. Just do as you're told!

Exit English - Strike Anywhere
Nuf said!

Our Darkest Days - Ignite
Zoltán Téglás leads you through an epic journey of hardcore punk. The way it used to be.

People Who Can Eat People are the Luckiest People in the World - Andrew Jackson Jihad
Check it out, you'll understand what I'm saying here.

That's enough for today... I gotta get some work done...

created and fallen

huge stone heads line the cliff face.
an ancient peoples only trace.
history is created and fallen again.
a civilisations hideous end.
is this a fate we all endure.
an imposing death without cure.
will everything created eventually fall?
hidden behind something newer, taller.
a city of millions becomes a deserted wasteland.
a lonely child with out stretched hands.
show me how i can save what we've got.
and i'll give my all 'til destruction is not...

bone and flesh

we are man of bone and flesh.
man of hope and soul.
we are man of love and lust.
man of blood and tissue.
we are man who doesnt want to die.
man who always will.
we are man who strive for glory.
man who crave the taste.
we are men with flaws like many others.
men who faulter.
we are men who have realised this
and so we are...
men who long for change.

jisei

a jisei is a japanese death poem. they are pretty simple and awesome. here is one i wrote a while back that i'm kinda proud of...

as it slowly fades
this light dims and i am gone
nothing left but dust

for your interest...

clash of titans

War? A titan against titan? Why is there talk of such things? When we, so small and insignificant in the grand scale of things, can do so little. Have such minor effects on the every growing world. We are nothing more than a pawn on a chess board, a blank square in a game of battle ships. Necessary for the game, but with no effect on the final outcome. We of little consequence, where will we be in one hundred years time? Not on the lips of students, not in the hearts of an uprising crowd. Are you really sure that this war is what you crave?

hey guys!!!!!!

it's bina while, yeh?
i'm bored at work today. listening to everything against me! that's about it really. maybe i'll write more often in here. i've actually started writing some match reports for my football club at http://www.curtinsoccer.com/news.htm i don't write all of them. about half really. check it yo.

what else is news?
not much really. still love punk rock, football and cheese so there's that...

orighty...

cheerio then...
